Dr. Thomas Newton Jr is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
Dr. Newton sees male and female patients who are 16 years of age and older. He enjoys the opportunity to diagnose, treat and discuss complex problems with with his patients, understanding that these issues are often awkward or embarrassing for the patient and/or family to discuss. Dr. Newton takes pride in treating each patient in a respectful manner.
Dr. Newton is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society, and Texas Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. Dr. Newton has two beautiful teenage daughters who are excellent students and competitive swimmers. He loves talking sports with patients and anyone else who will partake.

Dr Newton made a first time "uncomfortable" situation very clear and understandable. He was understanding of my concerns and made me more comfortable.
It's hard to describe the feeling of calmness and confidence that came over me when I was in Dr Newton's office. Everyone on his staff was kind and considerate. I drove from North Carolina to Texas to see Dr Newton who had treated my brother and my husband. They have the utmost respect for him. I can understand why, now that I've had my consultation with him. He listened, took care of all of my fears, worked with me on options for my procedure prep, and I left knowing that Dr Newton's stellar reputation was real. He's the reason that I'm being treated rather than just taking a chance with my health. My prior experiences were so difficult and impersonable I was willing to skip my colonoscopy rather than to go through that again. I can't explain how completely different and wonderful it is to be in Dr Newton's care.

I will say my experience with Dr. Newton was very pleasant. His demeanor made an awkward situation tolerable. However, I was running late to the appointment and I did try to call the doctor's office to let them know. And I remained on hold for the entirety of my drive and was disconnected and forced into callback about three minutes before I arrived to the doctor's office. And that is something that really caused a lot of stress and anxiety prior to an already difficult appointment.
Dr. Newton was prompt, courteous and efficient. He was a great listener and communicator.

Dealing with a cancer diagnosis and going to this doctor, from the moment I went in, the lady at the front, and then seeing the doctor, and then followed by the time I spent at Yesenia's desk, everyone treated me so kindly, so great, so nice. It made me feel at ease. It was a difficult time for me, yet they were extremely wonderful. And trustworthy. So thank you.
All of my nurses and care staff for this surgery were absolutely amazing. They even let me have a VERY warm blanket while waiting and borrow a phone charger to connect with my father who would be picking me up! My first nurse made sure to make me feel at ease and comfortable, while the others made sure to clearly go over everything we would be doing. I have had surgeries at other competitors hospitals and this was definitely the best experience I've had.
