About

Stephen K. Tyring, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., is a Clinical Professor in the Departments of Dermatology, Microbiology/Molecular Genetics and Internal Medicine at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He is a board certified physician by the American Board of Dermatology.

Dr. Tyring provides lectures to dermatology residents and students and also supervises and teaches residents and senior medical students on the diagnosis and treatment of outpatients in the dermatology clinic. Dr. Tyring has more than 800 published manuscripts and book chapters as well as 10 books. He is an Assistant Editor of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology , sits on several editorial boards and serves as a reviewer for a number of journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Antiviral Research, Journal of Infectious Diseases and Annals of Internal Medicine. His research interests include the role of specific viruses in sexually transmitted diseases (HPV, HIV, HSV) and the roles of HPV and human polyomaviruses in the pathogenesis of carcinomas of the skin, cervix, ano-genital mucosa, and oral epithelia.

Dr. Tyring is an active member in several professional societies including the American Academy of Dermatology, Society for Investigative Dermatology, American Medical Association and many more. He is involved in several community activities with the AIDS Alliance of the Bay Area, Center for AIDS (Houston) and Houston Herpes “HELP” Chapter. In his spare time, Dr. Tyring enjoys kayaking, hiking and traveling.
