Rod Jay Turner Jr., MD, is a primary care and sports medicine specialist. He sees patients of all ages and provides tailored treatment plans for a wide range of injuries related to sports and exercise.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Turner, is an assistant professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
Dr. Turner received his bachelor’s in molecular and cellular biology from Vanderbilt University, his master’s from University of South Florida, and medical degree from UTHealth Houston. In addition, he completed both an internship and residency at UTHealth Houston as well.
Dr. Turner is the team physician for the Houston Dynamo, the Houston Dash, and St. Thomas University.

Entire staff was extremely nice and professional
I had a very long wait time. Many patients came in and were taken before me. I finally asked what was going on and was taken right away.
Dr. Turner is amazing. This is our second Doctor visit with him and both times he has been great. The receptionist who checked me in was so nice. The nurse who brought us back could have a better bedside manner. She wasnt too friendly. I tried being nice and being polite asking about the bathroom and she was monotone and no facial expression and didnt greet us to say even hello it was just telling us where we were going. Didnt acknoledge my daughter to say hi either. She wasnt rude or mean but it looked like she didnt want to be there. Everyone in the office including the lady at check out was so so nice too. I would still recommend this practice and Doctor because we wont let one person ruin our experience when so many nice happy friendly people are there
New doctor liked him very much great bedside manner
Dr.Turner is very vriendly and affable. He explained to me that a steroid injection would help my problem with my right knee (ARTHRITIS), and probably work for approx. 4 months. He also asked if I took vitamin D, and I do. He would like to see me again in about 4 months.
Dr. Turner answered questions about aftercare and continuation of medications I was using verbally but my scribe was not there to take notes. I assumed information would be shared in 'summary' after visit, but no specific information was in summary. I understand Dr. is very busy so I wonder if an assistant could come in after procedure to answer standard questions about follow-up.
There was no wait time, in fact they were early and efficient. The injury/illness is age related and is no prevention to discuss. We did discuss management of condition going forward. My experience was excellent
Throughout my experience, everyone has been very attentive and helpful. Dr. Turner was extremely thorough and went above and beyond following through with my care.

The staff was very nice and professional. I did have to wait a very long time to be seen by the doctor. They explained that they were running late after I inquired, but I would have appreciated being seen closer to my appointment time.

Very professional doctor. Good manner on dealing with my knee. Deaden the area for the injection nicely and then inserted the needle in my knee for the placement of the PRP juice.
No wait, very efficient on xrays and my whole visit.
I was not pleased that a lot of the student doctors were allowed in without my consent or without my knowledge beforehand. I felt it was very impersonal to just have them impose upon my appointment. Additionally, I felt like the doctor didn't listen very well, was a bit arrogant, and I don't feel like I was heard and my ailment was not fully addressed.
The Doctor and staff were very nice and professional. They treated me with the most care. And today I feel alot better
Dr. Turner combines two types of knowledge.... medical knowledge and he is an athlete so he understands athletic/exercise injuries. I am a gym rat so he understands most of my injuries and he provides a medical solution or good healthcare advice.... A great medical dude!
