Robert A. Hetz, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with privileges at Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center and Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital, and an assistant professor in the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Hetz earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and completed his general surgery internship and residency at McGovern Medical School. He performed a postdoctoral fellowship at UTHealth under Dr. Charles S. Cox, MD, performing both clinical and basic science research on the use of progenitor cell therapies for the treatment of central nervous system diseases, and a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.

I've been worried sick since receiving a test result from another doctor that I had a CAC Score of 2,090 back in Oct. 2024. Today is actually the first day that I feel good about my future cardiac health and Thank the Lord I found Dr. Hermann and Dr. Hetz. I believe it's only a matter of time following my planned upcoming surgery that I'll start be a participant in life rather than a spectator.
I think the experience was great. However, I think you need to update the decor in your waiting room. The chairs are falling apart. It would leave a much better first impression if you updated and decorated the waiting room.
My appointment with Dr. Hetz was great. I like him very much. Equally great was his staff especially Loures who really impressed me with her knowledge, her professionalism, her upbeat personality, her empathy. She is a delightful lady who is also very cute! I also really liked Diana, the receptionist who is very sweet, knowledgeable and attractive. This is a very good team! ?
Dr. Hetz and Lourdes took the time we needed to walk through everything.

Front desk staff was fantastic I believe Diana was one of them. Lourdes (PA) was outstanding! Friendly, Knowledgeable, Knew history, reviewed history, was very specific, clarified follow-up testing and visit. Dr Hetz was outstanding as well, knew recent history, reviewed diagnostic findings and clarified the findings. Communicated clearly what next steps will be. Both demonstrated tremendous empathy and treated like a person.
Dr. Hetz was very thorough with his questions and answers. He seems to really help me with getting me back to being a healthy man with my heart. I like him.
Significant wait time & seems Dr. Hetz only clinic day. Completed many many pages if information in advance & still more at time of visit, consult & again with P.A.

Everyone has been super helpful. I was impressed that when I called to schedule my appointment, the person who answered the call actually made the appointment directly. Dr. Hetz took the time to answer all of my and my wife's questions and had reviewed all of the available test results prio to our meeting. One minor ding not related to Dr. Hetz or his staff, some of the chairs in the waiting room and in the exam room are really ratty and give a bad 1st impression.
