Overview

About

Peter H. Yang, MD, is a fellowship-trained pediatric neurosurgeon treating brain and spine disorders in children of all ages (from infancy to adulthood). Yang understands that every child’s story is unique. He aims to guide parents and caregivers to understand complex neurological diagnoses and their treatment options on a case-by-case basis. Some conditions Yang treats are hydrocephalus, tethered spinal cord, Chiari malformation, craniosynostosis, and vascular malformations.

Yang is an assistant professor of pediatric neurosurgery in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He obtained his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and trained in neurosurgery and pediatric neurosurgery at Washington University in St. Louis/St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Yang is a clinical and translational surgeon-scientist with a research interest in hydrocephalus. His primary research is focused on the pathophysiology and treatment of posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus in premature infants. He is investigating the molecular signatures found in human cerebrospinal fluid and implementing stem cell-derived 3D culture systems to advance treatments of this disease.

Yang is married and has two orange cats. Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, exploring Houston’s restaurant scene, exercising, and listening to classical music.
