Munachi N. Okpala, DNP, MBA, MSN, APRN, is passionate about providing quality care, focusing on the needs of her patients. By actively listening to their concerns and tailoring interventions to their unique requirements, she strives to ensure that patients and their families feel heard and understood. Through her approach, she aims to address the medical aspects of stroke while also considering the psychosocial and lifestyle factors that can impact recovery, leading to better patient outcomes and overall satisfaction with the health care experience.
Okpala is a certified nurse practitioner in the Department of Neurology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. She received her doctorate from Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, her Master of Science in nursing from Prairie View A&M University, and her Master of Business Administration from West Texas A&M University.
In addition to her specialized care for stroke patients in an outpatient clinical setting, Okpala is associate director for the Stroke Transitions Education and Prevention Program, through which she provides stroke prevention care to patients remotely using novel telemedicine technologies. She serves as a site investigator in a trial sponsored by the American Heart Association for blood pressure treatments post-stroke.
In her free time, Okpala loves to read, cook, clean, and dance for fun.

Had wanted Mom's 4 adult children to be on video call, but each kept being dropped until all Had to be dropped & only an audio call was dependably usable. All of us kept being disconnected and was very frustrating both to us & the Dr! Very disappointing that they could not be there for the appt.

Dr Okpala is a rock star. I got her by luck of the draw after a MH Hospital stay a year ago. What a major score! She knows me. She knows my wife. Remembers what we talked about 3 months ago. Very updated on medical issues (I read a lot online). I've never looked forward to anything medical, but my periodic visits to her are the exception.
I like the concern that the doctor had about her patient, she listen to your questions and answers with great knowledge. She seem to really care about your health and your well-being, mentally and physically. She also offered great eating habits, advice, and the benefit of exercising. This was my first time having a teller doctor visit and it was a great experience . I was afraid at first that I wasn't gonna be able to connect but the instructions was made easy through the pre-call that we received in. She stayed on the phone with us and walked us through the process and stayed there until we connected with the doctor. I can't recall her name, but she was great very patient and very knowledgeable at what she was doing . Just overall the visit was beneficial And time well spent.

Yes, I have been going for quite a few years to Munachi Okpala. At the beginning, she was very, very good, very attentive. I don't believe in virtual calls now that I can go in and see the doctor. I am a nurse, and I guess I'm old school, but I like the doctors to have hands on. In my last three visits, in fact, ever since COVID, the treatment that I got before that was nothing like what I'm getting now. I go and I sit down and I'm talking to no one listens to my breathing. No one checks my head. She used to have me walk to check my gait. She used to do reflexes, hold my hand out to see the steadiness of it

This provider had the patience of a saint dealing with a stroke patient that had memory issues, struggled to understand medication, constantly interrupted to asked questions about things that sometimes didn't pertain to the topic provider was attempting to communicate to patient. Bless her!
