Dr. Michael Weaver, DFASAM, is a professor and medical director at the Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addictions for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
Dr. Weaver primarily sees adolescents, adults and seniors with any substance use disorder or concerns about misuse of controlled substance prescription medications. Dr. Weaver uses the latest medical practices to treat addiction, based on scientific study. His treatment approach is to have a recovery plan with different components for each patient, since every person is unique. He encourages development of a personal recovery support network involving family, peers, and health professionals. Attendance at support groups (such as Smart Recovery, Celebrate Recovery or Alcoholics Anonymous) is encouraged. Professional counseling in an individual or group setting is also an essential part of treatment. Dr. Weaver meets with all patients personally to perform an evaluation. He then works with his patients to come up with a personalized treatment plan, including prescribing medications for treatment of addiction with ongoing follow-up visits.
Dr. Weaver is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Pain Society, American Society of Addiction Medicine, Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse, College on Problems of Drug Dependence. He is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
When Dr. Weaver is not caring for his patients, he enjoys spending time with family and reading.

It was a good experience, my appointment went smoothly and timely without feeling rushed. Dr. Weaver seems to be a knowledgeable, friendly, talented and most importantly caring professional. I presently considered myself lucky to have him in my corner. His understudy/assistant seemed to have these same characteristics and the students she oversaw were professional, friendly and more likely an addition to the positive environment rather than a distraction.
Everything went very well! The quality of service was exceptional. The staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable, very professional and courteous. Thank you so much!!!
Dr.Weaver is amazing!!!!
Yeah, they went over everything in great detail and I appreciate that very much. I just had too many questions and that was more of the problem than anything. So good job to the crew. Thank you.
I'd like this to be completely anonymous. I waited 15 minutes into my appointment and then a PA or a resident was put on the phone to talk to me for 20 minutes and maybe 10 minutes was spent with the doctor. Not happy.
I appreciate Dr Weavers straight forward manner and his willingness to address my questions and concerns. My only apprehension with my video calls is I have received serve from one of his residents(not sure the correct title) who I have great respect for and makes me feel very comfortable, I just hesitate to ask questions as I sometimes have difficulty understanding his speech. He's a really good Dr it may just be I can't hear very well.
I just love Dr. Weaver. He is the best. I live in [...] which is 4 hours from Houston. I try to go see Dr. Weaver at least every 6 months. I don't mind the drive at all. He is an Amazing Doctor.
My name is [...][...] and the visit on camera, virtual, was very convenient. I loved it. The doctor was very interested in my concern and he gave me some very good advice that I felt comfortable with. And the visit was excellent. Thank you.
