Katherine Velez, MD, is a pediatric endocrinologist who treats infants, children, and teens.
Dr. Velez has over 20 years of experience as a physician. Initially starting as a general pediatrician, she moved on to subspecialty training and has now worked in the field of pediatric endocrinology for over 13 years.
Whether the diagnosis is an endocrine disorder or not, Dr. Velez strives to be as thorough as she can in order to best help every child. She strongly advocates for fair time with all of her patients and finds it imperative to have an efficient process to achieve her goal.
What sets Dr. Velez’s practice apart is her dedicated in-office team who has a singular focus of providing the best care possible. She and her entire staff all give it the same effort, and everyone at her practice knows all the patients and their needs by heart. Her relatively small office and long-term staff create a very personal approach to health care.
Dr. Velez focuses on the care of underproduction and overproduction of hormones in children. Typically, her patients will be guided and referred to her by their pediatricians if there is an issue that can be due to a hormonal/endocrine condition. Some of the conditions she treats include: Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, short stature, precocious or delayed puberty, irregular periods, hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, low or excess cortisol levels, calcium regulation disorders, water regulation disorders, and low glucose.
She’s especially interested in Type 1 diabetes and the technology that is rapidly developing to improve the quality of life for diabetic patients.
Dr. Velez speaks English and Spanish.
While not treating patients, she enjoys going to painting classes.

My experience with Dr. Vales was amazing. The staff is really good. I think the worst part of this is this survey. This is very long. It's very inefficient, and I waited just to give you feedback on that. I think it can be a lot more effective if you send an e-mail or if you ask the patients to fill this out in any other way other than having a recording walk us painfully through all of the options. So I'm pretty sure that you don't get enough feedback, and this would probably be the most likely reason why. But in terms of the doctor and the care, she's amazing. I would definitely recommend her, but please change your survey.
Great doctor and staff!
I gave a three for referring the provider because it's impossible to get an appointment time when the physician requests the time, whether it's three months, four months, five months, it's never available and I would not refer somebody to have to deal with that. So you need to fix your appointment times when the doctor wants to see somebody in four months, you should have an appointment available and I shouldn't have to go to other people to get an appointment.

Dr. Velez is patient with my child. She calmly interacts with him. The office is clean , no long wait time and the staff is nice.
Overall very pleased with everything.
My twin boys are both patients and are always scheduled and seen together. Unfortunately, during our last visit in August 2024, the front desk staff failed to schedule my other son, Jase Sisney, for our next appointment at checkout. This mistake wasn't discovered until the week before our scheduled visit, and by then, there were no available appointments for Jase, meaning he wasn't seen. This was frustrating and completely out of our control. Improved scheduling procedures are needed to ensure that parents with multiple children don't run into these issues in the future.

The woman who was working the front desk let us know we could write a letter to santa. This was so adorable. Also, Dr. Velez always is so sweet with my son. Answers all questions with ease and always makes sure I'm understanding. Love her and her team.
Everything is excellent and I loved the treatment we received.
Very bad experience due to poor attention in regards to making my daughter come back again and again without providing clear answers and without requesting all the preventive measures at once. A blood test was done on my daughter beforehand that according to them was "incomplete" and did not give concrete solutions. I requested the option of having an ultrasound to rule out any problem that could be seen in images, and she was very rude in her explanation. She is definitely not at all interested in the patient's health and well-being. She is only interested in patients coming back again and again and again. I'm very disappointed in the care of this Doctor, Velez. Though I have nothing against the care of the medical center.
I really like Dr Velez. I told her a concern my son has told me and she explained it to him ([...] years old) very well in a simple way for him to understand. She is always very friendly, happy and out going when she walks in to the exam room and during our visit. She always asks if I have questions or concerns. I recommend her to any one that asks about finding a pediatric endocrinologist.
