Karl Schmitt, MD, is an assistant professor of neurosurgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and is board certified by the American Association of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Schmitt is a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; he completed a five-year neurosurgery residency at the same institution. In 2005, he completed the Yale Comprehensive Spinal Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven.
Before joining the UT Physicians Neurosciences, Schmitt served as an assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. From 1995 until 2004, prior to completing his spinal fellowship, he was a member of Spinal and Neurological Surgery Associates, PLLC in Bryan, Texas, with a faculty appointment as adjunct assistant professor at the Texas A&M School of Medicine. He was in private practice in Bryan from 1984 to 1995.

I have so much confidence in Dr. Schmitt. He always takes time to show and explain to me all the tests results. He is so knowledgeable but he explains using vocabulary I can understand.
Somehow we didn't get the information that we needed an x-ray before the office visit but they sent us down to imaging and we were quickly processed and within minutes Dr Schmitt had the x-rays and saw me after a relatively short wait. Excellent service.
Everyone from a UT health person in the elevator to all the office staff in Dr Schmitt's office were VERY friendly and helpful. It was a very comfortable and pleasant experience. Thank you all!

The new medications that I received, they're not, the meds are larger than I got at the hospital. I'm just wondering why. That's all. But everything's okay, this thing, the doctor. And I appreciate his concern for us. And my daughter and me, we were there together.

Services with manners
One of the ladies at the Front Desk seemed like she was in a bad mood, I don't remember her name. It seems her name was Gilda but she was looking at her nails while I asked her important questions and then she just looked at the system and answered yes and one, but she was never or had a friendly attitude, it made me feel very uncomfortable. I was there with my dad
I think only thing I like to mention that I am waiting for the after visit summary in my chat which I have not seen as of today. So I am expecting that it should put in my chart. This is the feature plan and this is the thing. And still I am feeling some dizziness. So what are the precautions should I, what are the next thing I should do to kick off this dizziness. I am expecting him to put this in my chat comments. Thank you.
Staff and doctor were both extremely friendly and courteous. The doctor spent more than usual time with us explaining and answering questions! His assistant, Debby was very friendly. Great experience!!
I feel so fortunate to have had Dr. Karl Schmitt, MD as my neurosurgeon. He for sure saved my life by treating my subdural hematoma. He also did an excellent job with my sutures. He is extremely competent and spent quite a lot of time answering all of my friends' questions. His nurse Debbie is also wonderful. Thank you so much for all you do for your patients, Dr. Schmitt.
