Joseph Hsieh, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-eligible neurosurgeon with expertise in neurosurgical treatment of disorders of the spinal column and cord. He specializes in complex spinal reconstruction as well as minimally invasive approaches.
Dr. Hsieh is a graduate of Stanford University with a master’s in biology. He holds both an MBA and an MPH from the Anderson School of Management and the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining UT Physicians Neurosciences, Dr. Hsieh completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Chicago and a complex spine fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles under J. Patrick Johnson, MD.
Dr. Hsieh has presented his work on policy in neurosurgery and spine both nationally and internationally and continues his research on quality originally initiated during the time he spent in Washington, D.C., as the Plante Policy fellow for the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.

Yes, (INAUDIBLE) doctor did very well. There's some things you can't see on the MRI. He's the best there is. I appreciate it. I put my full, my full thoughts and wishes for him. I trust him with everything. God bless.
Dr Hsieh was nice but he took a Quick Look at my lower back and said "you're healing just fine" then proceeded to leave the room. I stopped him and asked him about the bulge in my back. Then he stopped and looked and explained why and then he took the time to show me images that I hadn't seen before and explained things in more detail that no one else had and I really appreciated him taking the time to do that. Everything at that point made sense.

The entire staff was professional and efficient. They did a fantastic job of answering my questions. Delania and Melanie at the front reception welcomed me warmly. Aimee sent my referral immediately and also gave me a copy just in case. Nurse Tina asked specific and thoughtful questions. Dr. Hsieh and Bessie gave me a very thorough exam. I could tell Dr. Hsieh had reviewed my MRI. Choosing the correct Neurosurgeon is an important decision. I am confident in this team. They all worked together well and I could tell they respected each other and me as a patient. I have already recommended them to a colleague with spine issues.
I was ready Happy that they treated me. Well, that hurt what I had to say. They explained everything to me and I was comfortable with their presence.

Dr ordered an MRI. I informed him and staff I was claustrophobic. Said would order an activity med for exam. Had to recall office 2 days before exam to place the order. This is important so don't know why not done without my followup.

During this whole experience Dr. Hsieh and his medical staff has been more than helpful in making this happen for me. ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS TOOK HIS TIME WITH OUR VISIT. SAID CALL ANY TIME IF I FELT ANY THING WAS WRONG AND ANY QUESTIONS I MIGHT HAVE. EXPLAINED EVERYTHING THAT WAS DONE IN SURGERY AND WHY . GLAD I HAD THE PLEASURE ALSO TO MET HIM AND RIGHT AWAY HE KNEW HOW TO FIX ME. WE WILL ALWAYS BE FRIENDS AND TO THE MANY PEOPLE OUT THERE AND YOU NEED THIS SURGERY YOU CAN TRUST HIM. HIS STAFF IS GREAT AND TREAT YOU LIKE YOU ARE A REAL PERSON.
Dr. Hsieh suggested working with my family doctor about osteomyelitis treatment as my fracture continues to heal. He also has filed orders for pain management should I need it. He did a fabulous job on my neck Oct. 2023 and I trust him with every phase of my care. I like the way he is incorporating more of my medical team, but he says to keep him posted if we need to see after any new developments.
My visit with Dr Hsieh on Jan 28 could not have gone any better. We arrived a little early, and they were able to work me in a little early to fit their schedule too. Melanie at the front desk was so nice. I came into this office visit 'through the back door' since Bessie Buchelli PA is a personal acquaintance, but I believe this practice treats all of their patients as I was treated...with professionalism, respect and a sincere desire to help us find answers.

Yes, Dr. Shea, I really trusted him right away. I believe what he told me. He's the first doctor who's actually given me any information that actually helped me. And he helped me make a decision that nobody else has even considered. He's the third spine doctor I've seen. And he's the only one that I would recommend to anybody. And I would recommend him highly. And that's about it. I really appreciated what he did for me. And I know he's going to still help me if I need it.
