Jose M. Marchena, MD, DMD, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with interests in facial fractures, maxillofacial mucosal and cutaneous pathology, impacted wisdom teeth, and international humanitarian surgery.
Marchena rejoined McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston in 2015, where he’s an associate professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, after a successful career in private practice.
Marchena is the chief of oral and maxillofacial surgery at Ben Taub Hospital. He is also the vice president of Smile Bangladesh, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing cleft lip and palate repair operations in rural Bangladesh.
He’s a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Craniomaxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Yesterday I had a surgical procedure done by Dr. Marchena. Dr Jose Marchena is a gifted surgeon. However, Dr Marchena's nursing staff is not able for some unknown reasons they have not been able get the directions correct for my Peridex. Also there has been an extreme issue with my antibiotics, Augmentin or a generic of this antibiotic or another antibiotic. I was promised yesterday by his nursing staff that they would get these issues corrected. On day Two I still Do Not have my medications ready. I thought that these medications were important for me to have a healthy recovery. Please help me to receive my medications. This is not a professional way for his nurse act.
Dr. Marchena and staff were amazing! He answered post surgery questions promptly.
Dr. Marchena and his staff were wonderful. He explained what he had done and what needed to be done after. He even wanted us to keep him posted after so he could make sure things were going ok. Certainly a very caring doctor.
This doctor was patient with me and he explained any problems and concerns that I might have. His explanation of my problems and symptoms was in layman's terms.
