John W. Munz, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic trauma, including periarticular fractures (bone breaks inside or around a joint), nonunions/malunions, infections, foot and ankle trauma, and amputations.
He’s a professor, the Rochelle and Max Levit Chair in Orthopedic Surgery, and chief of orthopedic trauma service in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He’s a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons
Munz received his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 2005. He completed his residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 2010 and a fellowship in 2011 at Harborview Medical Center.
He’s a member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Munz has been recognized for excellence in teaching for his work locally and nationally with medical students, residents, and fellows.

In August 2022, I broke both femurs in a fall. Dr. Munz spent 8 1/2 hours rebuilding my legs! Today I am up and walking! God and Dr. Munz are a GREAT team!
The front office was difficult to schedule an appointment. I had a confirmation of my fax being sent at 9:45 am regarding a referral. I called at 2pm and was told no fax had been received. I called back moments later and was told by another receptionist the fax was received and she would give it to Sharon. I left several messages with Sharon from Wed of last week and did not get a return call until Monday of this week to set up an appointment. She would have helped by communicating if a delay in scheduling the appointment. The front desk seem to not want to deal with the workmans comp claim and the delay was not managed properly. A phone call back or explanation of the process would have alleviated quite a bit of frustration. Once the appt was set on Tuesday, the doctors were very kind and informative.
I called back to confirm I was getting additional pain medication, just not as strong. I was told the PA was working on it but needed to finish the report. It's been over 24 hours and the pharmacy hasn't called.

All the people were very kind.
Dr. Munz and his staff are all great people. The only issues I have is that I did not meet Dr. Munz until my post-op appointment. He did speak to my wife after surgery. The second issue is that nobody told me at my pre-op appointment that I could potentially have to stay overnight at the hospital after surgery. When I was told I would have to stay the night, it caused me and my wife a lot of stress because I was not mentally prepared, and because my wife had to drive back to Dickinson to pack me a bag. It was totally preventable.
Not good. Only because my femur is still broken and it's been almost a year
The staff is always nice & ready to help. Dr. Munz is very attentive and helpful, I definitely feel like I am in good hands with him.
Very little wait time
I am disappointed with the lack of care or concern for my progress back to normal. It seems no one looks at my file or notes my health issues.

Impressed with Xray efficiency & dressing/stitch removal & overall visit efficiency. Met one of surgery team but got no info. No update on surgery condition. Left to assume that no info meant "all is going well." Very efficient visit. No info.
As a newcomer to the med center area, it was confusing finding everything. Overall, I was pleased with all!
not only did they listen to me about the issue i came for they also looked at what i had appointment for in 2 weeks. doing this has given me more confidence in full recovery for the coming year

If you know the CT scans are going to be needed for a follow up visit give me the disc with the CT scans before I leave.

I just wanted to say that Dr. Munz did a fantastic job. I'm very satisfied with the surgery and I'm very satisfied with the follow-up. He saw me in a timely fashion. Every time I never had to wait in the clinic. The clinic is very busy, but they always took me on time. Dr. Munz was very positive about my recovery and I was very satisfied with my visits to see him.
John Munz is fabulous communicator and clinician, and carefully listens and engages with the patient.
