Elena T. Cherian, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained endocrinologist with advanced training in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. Her clinical interests include adrenal disorders, thyroid/parathyroid/calcium disorders, pituitary disorders, diabetes, obesity, lipid disorders, bone health, and male and female reproductive disorders. She believes in delivering timely, personalized, patient-centered, and high-quality patient care.
Cherian joined McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston as an assistant professor in July 2021 and is actively involved in clinical patient care and resident/medical student teaching. She was awarded the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.
She received her medical degree from Coimbatore Medical College in Tamil Nadu, India. She completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in endocrinology/metabolism at McGovern Medical School. She is board-certified in internal medicine and endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism.
Outside of work, she prioritizes spending quality time with her husband and kids, and her hobbies include gardening and traveling.

I was treated with great respect and kindness. Dr was incredibly knowledgable of my medical issues. She explained everything to me she was going to do and why! She is a great asset to the practice. Her nurse Kim was awesome also. So sociable and kind. I loved the care I got with them both! I feel she will figure out what no-one else has in several years!
Dr. Cherian was very easy to talk with. She listened to my concerns and questions. She explained all of my testing in detail, so I would understand why the tests are needed. She also gave excellent instructions for perparing for testing. I was very comfortable with her and really appreciate her thoroughness. Her nursing staff is wonderful!
