Overview

About

Annie M. Wang, MD, is a fellowship-trained plastic surgeon specializing in breast cancer reconstruction and lymphedema. In addition to the full spectrum of techniques for breast reconstruction, she’s trained in microvascular autologous breast reconstruction, where the patient’s own tissue is used to restore a breast. She is also an expert in lymphedema and has specific expertise in reconstructive lymphatic microsurgery and supermicrosurgery.

Wang is an assistant professor in the Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.

Wang pursued her medical education at the prestigious University of Toronto, where she not only earned her medical degree but also completed a Master of Science in system leadership and innovation at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME). This dual focus gave her a deep understanding of clinical practice and health system management, equipping her with a unique perspective on improving patient care and surgical outcomes.

Following medical school, Wang completed her residency in plastic surgery at the University of Toronto, where she further refined her surgical skills in reconstructive and aesthetic procedures and was known for her commitment to excellence and dedication to advancing patient care.

To build on her expertise, Wang pursued a fellowship in microvascular reconstruction and microsurgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, a premier institution for cancer treatment and research. During her fellowship, she focused on her two passions, breast reconstruction and lymphedema surgery.

Outside of work, her greatest joy is her family. She enjoys painting, cooking, traveling, and trying new restaurants in Houston with a Canadian flair on the menu.

When entering the Sugarland building, there was a large display of Physicians and their offices. Dr. Wang was not listed. There was a listing of several offices apparently leased by UT Physicians but no listing of Dr Wang by name. I called their offices using the phone number on their Website, but the choices were for the Fanin Street location rather than the Sugarland offices. I finally went into a random office and the lady at the front desk was able to direct me to Dr Wang's office. The directory at Memorial Hermann Offices in the buildings on Gessner allow one to type the Name of a Physician, but not so at your Sugar Land Office. It was fortunate I was early and a random office clerk was able to guide me. I suggest you correct this more than minor annoyance if you expect that I would use this site again. I informed the receptionist in Dr. Wang"s office as well as informing Dr. Wang.

She is the most dedicated doctor I have ever seen, and she treated me like I was the only person she was there to treat. And if anything happened again, I would love to have her as my doctor, because the way she treated me, I can't explain it to you. It made me feel like it was just about me. And I thank her.

I felt the overall appointment was a little rushed. It was 45 minutes late starting. There were some questions from the provider. I think it was probably fairly clear cut, but I also felt like the individual... I didn't feel like it was really treated with completely new eyes in a way. I was impressed with her professionalism and her skill. I did like her. She was friendly, as was Iris and the other person greeting. I do think she's skillful. I just felt like it was a bit rushed considering the amount of time. It was less than 10 minutes overall considering the amount of time that I had to wait for the appointment.

In response to the survey request regarding my visit to Doctor Wang at UT Medical Center on 2/10/2025. Unfortunately, my experience was highly unsatisfactory and warrants your attention. This was, without question, the worst medical visit I have ever had, leaving me feeling dismissed, unheard, and without a proper course of treatment. Rather than being examined directly by Dr. Wang I was instead seen by two interns who were neither properly introduced nor supervised. These interns were intrusive in their questioning and outright denied that my symptoms were related to diastasis recti, despite readily available medical literature confirming otherwise. Their dismissive attitude made it clear they were unprepared to assess my condition adequately. When Dr. Wang finally entered the room, I expected a thorough evaluation and discussion of treatment options. Instead, the doctor applied minimal pressure to my abdomen, briefly stated that there was nothing they could do, and then referred me to a women's pelvic floor and whole-body physical therapy clinic. This referral was completely inappropriate for me as a 54-year-old male patient, as the clinic specializes in postpartum recovery, pelvic pain, menopause and perimenopause, pelvic organ prolapse, and vaginoplasty preparation and recovery. This action demonstrated a lack of understanding of my medical history and an overall failure to provide appropriate care. Furthermore, while the interns asked numerous (albeit dismissive) questions, Dr. Wang barely engaged with me, showing little interest in my symptoms or how they affect my daily life. Given that I had already undergone extensive evaluations by my primary care physician, a gastroenterologist, and a general surgeon before being referred to this specialist, I expected a higher level of expertise and consideration. This experience left me feeling completely invalidated and without a clear path forward for treatment. I placed trust in Dr. Wang as a specialist, only to be met with indifference, lack of empathy, and an irrelevant referral that suggests little effort was made to truly assess my condition. The entire visit was a waste of time, resources, and hope for receiving proper medical assistance. I urge the hospital to reevaluate how specialists interact with patients, ensuring they provide appropriate referrals and demonstrate the level of care expected from a reputable medical institution.

The nurse Iris was thoughtful and kind.

The doctor did not mention to me as to what is the solution to the problem that I'm facing. All she said was that she could not do the surgery because she thinks that my case is very delicate. And because of the prehistory, she thinks that she will not be able to get this approved from Medicare. That is not a solution to the problem.

Thank you for everything

Dr. Wang and the students and then I think maybe the resident that we're helping were absolutely incredible. I felt very comfortable. It's, you know, it was a very difficult appointment I was there for and I would definitely return. In fact, you know, I hope the insurance approved my procedure because I'd like to return for the rest of them. Y'all have a great practice. Thanks.
