Alvaro I. Montealegre, MD, is a gynecologic surgeon who is passionate about improving women’s health and delivery outcomes utilizing minimally invasive techniques. He has devoted his practice to performing and teaching minimally invasive gynecologic surgery to the next generation of physicians. Montealegre an associate professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, and co-director of the Advanced Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Fellowship.
He completed his medical school education in Costa Rica at the Autonomous University of Central America, and his residency training at Tulane University and Methodist/St. Joseph Hospital in Houston in 2007. After six years in private practice, he joined McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston in 2014.
In his spare time, Montealegre enjoys traveling, sailing, windsurfing, and brewing beer.

The staff was exceptional. They were extremely friendly, extremely helpful. This is the front lobby, which the lobby was extremely clean. It was just a plexi-wait. And whenever I was entered into the waiting room to wait for Dr. M, they checked on me several times, which was really nice because I got to chat with the girls and they were so friendly. And Dr. Monte, as I call him, he, as always, was extremely professional, very thorough, asked so many questions that it didn't come to mind for me to initially ask. And I am extremely pleased with him. He's my lifetime gynecologist. He always will be.

The visit was fine - Dr. Montealegre seemed very confident and spent an ample amount of time explaining everything and answering our questions. But in terms of getting to the office, Google Maps does not properly lead you to the office building. The office buildings are not marked clearly on the outside. We ended up parking in a garage that was farther away and had to walk over. Once inside the building and on the floor, there are no signs to indicate where to go so we had to ask around and then we had to be let in to the Women's Center because it's under lock and key. Lack of accessibility was the worst issue at this office. UT should do something about this.

Everyone was helpful, starting from the ladies at the front. The nurse was very professional and charming which made my nervousness to disappear. Dr. Monte is always caring, patient, and down to earth. I really like his calmness and gentleness.
Very satisfactory, as with all the doctors, assistants and administrative staff. They all do their job well and their attention to the patient is friendly, considerate and attentive. I waited an hour to be seen. People who arrived after me were seen before me. But maybe they fit me in because my visit was somewhat urgent. The doctor spent an adequate amount of time and answered all my questions. He tried to ease my fears. One of the medical assistants who chubby in the face with her hair up is nasty and rude - 0 customer service but unfortunately I don't know her name. MA with blond highlights is nice.
I recently underwent a hysterectomy at Memorial Hermann Hospital, and I am grateful for the outstanding care I received throughout the entire process. Dr. Montealegre was exceptional-thorough and professional. He took the time to explain everything clearly, which made me feel confident and well-prepared for the procedure. A special thank-you to the amazing nursing staff: Nurse Fritzie in pre-op for her kindness and calming presence, and Nurses Vivian and Juliana in Phase II for their attentiveness and support during my recovery. They really took care of me. The procedure went smoothly, and my recovery has been going very well. I recommend Dr. Montealegre and the staff at Memorial Hermann Hospital to anyone in need of excellent surgical care.
I have this provided more then 15 years and I ready trying different providers because sometimes Montealegre is busy and the days I need he don't see patients but definitely he is number 1 and the soonest I can I go see him again he is good doctor and understands my concerns always .....
