Aaron Rayford, PA-C, is a physician assistant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
Aaron specializes in sports medicine injuries as well as hand, wrist, and upper extremity pathology. He sees patients in the office and assists with surgical procedures where he works alongside sports medicine specialist Joshua Griffin, MD. Aaron also participates in the training room and game coverage for Sam Houston State University, in addition to providing orthopedic care for various local high schools.
Aaron received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a minor in biology from The University of Texas at San Antonio. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he went on to work in a multitude of orthopedic settings where he gained experience in trauma, pain management, total joint replacement, and foot and ankle care.
Aaron first joined UTHealth Houston in 2017 after obtaining a certification as a registered orthopedic technician but his thirst for knowledge and love for orthopedics prompted him to advance his education. He received a master’s degree in physician assistant studies from Colorado Mesa University in 2021 where he graduated with honors and earned the Maverick Award due to his determination, grit, and strive for excellence. Aaron promises to bring the same mentality to patient care as a provider for your orthopedic needs.
He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
In his spare time, Aaron enjoys playing basketball, watching sporting events, traveling, and spending time with his friends, family, and significant other.

The efficiency of this office was exemplary. I arrived almost 30 min early for my appointment because of traffic uncertainty, but was taken back to the treatment room less than 10 minutes after arrival, and everything was already laid out for my injection. Aaron came in about 5 minutes later, and after a brief review and confirmation, gave me my injection. I was on my way home before the scheduled appointment time. This treatment session could not have gone better.
Aaron was most helpful in every way, told me exactly what i needed to know and do.
You need to coordinate your office better. I updated my pharmacy information on Tuesday yet my prescription was sent to the wrong place Thursday. If you want patients to verify information prior to each visit then you need to update the information prior to each visit.
I was disappointed that no xray was done during this visit.
Aaron is personable, professional, informative, caring, helpful, friendly, and courteous. The front desk is welcoming, friendly, and helpful.
Aaron is just an absolute gem to work with, and was very informative as my health is very complicated, and he was very knowledgeable about everything, and super helpful about navigating certain medications that we need to get on, etc. So it was a wonderful experience.
Dr. Freedhand listed my hip replacement surgery as outpatient. I told him I always spend at least one night in hospital next day, Iwas unable to care for myself and in severe pain. 24 hour care two weeks paid for by me. Now in skilled nursing care at Ignite. Surgery/good, recovery/painful& difficulty.
Check in process is not clear. When you step off the elevator, there are multiple signs in color. The place to sign in isn't clear, so many folks just walk up to someone behind the counter. Perhaps a sign in red that says SIGN IN HERE would be helpful. Thanks!

Aaron, the PA is the most professional, kind, friendly person one could ever ask for. After two knee replacements and abour two years of seeing him I have been most pleased. He is a great examples of what a professional who knows what he is doing looks like. Keep up the great work!
My opinion is that I feel good and well cared for and I don't have any concerns. Dr. Aaron is an excellent doctor and treats me very well and that is why I give hi this rating. They are very excellent and I feel better. I am receiving therapy but I feel good. Thank you.
I have arthritis and he gave me some prednisone to help with the pain. Nothing like getting old.

Yes, I want to thank Dr. Freehand and his physician assistant for their care, their excellence in providing their procedure, and their assistance in making sure that I got the right aftercare, going the extra step in, making sure that I got the rehab placement that I needed. Smooth operation start to finish. Making appointments, changing them, checking in, to being called in, xrays, seeing the doctor and checking out - all seamless and efficient, done with care
Dr. Visits are quick and easy and I have no problem with the staff at all
Visit was really great. However the automated messages are super annoying, for a week and a half I had multiple messages every day about the same thing. Same questionnaires every time. Then I had to answer the "sick" one again on my way to the appointment. If there is a way, it would be less irritating if they were cut in half at least.
The team of Dr. Friedhand and Dr. Rayford is excellent surgeons. I trust them with everything. No pain, no gain, though, but I really appreciate what they did for me. Thank you.
