Not only can they affect your confidence, varicose or spider veins can also cause pain and discomfort. To help those struggling with this condition, UT Physicians Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery – Bellaire clinic will be hosting two no-cost screenings days on:
- Wednesday, March 16, 8:30 a.m. – noon
- Saturday, April 2, 8:30 – 11:00 a.m.
Located at 6700 West Loop South, Suite 110, Bellaire, TX 77401, the clinic has free parking for visitors. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 713-500-VEIN (8346).
Sheila M. Coogan, MD, vascular surgeon with UT Physicians and professor with McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, will provide the complimentary consultations.
“By offering free consultations on both a weekday and weekend, we’re able to accommodate many individuals — especially those who cannot take off of work to get their condition assessed,” said Coogan.
Varicose veins are typically raised, swollen, and appear twisted underneath the skin, while spider veins are smaller and considered more superficial.
“As a vascular surgeon, when I screen patients for varicose veins, I also make sure patients do not have issues with blood flow to their legs,” she explained.
Coogan frequently checks for peripheral arterial disease (PAD), a common circulatory problem where narrowed arteries reduce the blood flow to parts of the body. While screening for PAD is recommended for all adults, it is particularly important for people who smoke or have a family history of heart and vascular disease.
“Anytime is a great time to get screened for venous disease. Not only will your legs look better, but it will make you feel better as well,” said Coogan.
Spots are limited for this no-cost special. Call 713-500-VEIN (8346) today to schedule your consultation.
