For four years, UT Physicians and UTHealth Houston have served as platinum sponsors of the Jensen Jubilee Fall Festival. With an overall goal of promoting the Eastex and Jensen community, the UT Physicians Multispecialty – Jensen clinic uses the event as an opportunity to connect with their patient population outside of a clinic room.
“It is vital to continuously develop a relationship with the community that fosters opportunities for dialogue to break down barriers that hinder access to health care and negatively affect patient outcomes,” said Marlon J. Stewart, practice manager of the UT Physicians Multispecialty – Jensen clinic.
On Saturday, Oct. 16, festival attendees were able to enjoy great food and fun entertainment, and learn easy tips to stay healthy. In addition to promoting the clinic and its services, clinic staff also distributed educational materials on COVID-19 and healthy nutrition.
UTHealthCares, an interprofessional student-led organization at UTHealth Houston, also participated in the day by handing out donated nonperishable food courtesy of Harris County Commissioner Adrian Garcia from Precinct 2.
“As students, we’re happy the community was so receptive to us,” said Mary Fuentes, UTHealthCares member and graduate student. “It’s a small interaction, but it’s very rewarding. It reminds us what we’re actually doing with our studies and who we are trying to help at the end of the day.”
