Albert J. Heo, MD, staff physician at UT Physicians Multispecialty – International District, chose to become a doctor because it combined his two passions.

“I majored in biology and sociology in college (The University of Texas at Austin), and I wanted a career that married science and people. Medicine was the perfect fit for me,” Heo said.

Heo attended McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and performed his residency within the practice plan. Now he starts his career in medicine with UT Physicians.

“It’s definitely great to be in the same system for this long. All along the journey, I felt very supported by everyone I crossed, including classmates and professors,” he said. “I definitely feel like I fit in at UT. I also feel it prepared me very well for the job.”

Heo specializes in both pediatrics and internal medicine.

“I wanted to be able to take care of people of every age, from newborns to seniors,” he said. “I really want to be able to follow my patients and develop long-term relationships.”

Born in South Korea and raised in Spring, Texas, Heo is fluent in Korean and English. He can also understand quite a bit of Spanish.

“Houston is a multicultural city, so it helps to know more than one language,” Heo said, “No matter their origin or language, I want to be able to connect to all of my patients and gain their trust.”

In his free time, Heo enjoys singing karaoke and spending time with his family — including his dog Courage. He also hopes to pick up some new and old hobbies.

“I like to travel, and I want to do more of it. I would like to see all 50 states one day,” he said. “I also play the violin. I’ve been too busy to play the last few years, but I’m hoping to pick it back up soon.”
